This June, round up the wagons and head to Portland’s city center for sometasty eats and cowboy fun at the “Country Natural Beef & Friends Country Food Fair.” This very special fair will take place on Thursday, June 10, from 5 PM – 9 PM at Director Park, Portland’s newest park in the heart of downtown. The Country Food Fair is hosted by Country Natural Beef – the pioneering, Oregon-founded natural beef cooperative that has been a part of the Oregon landscape since 1986. Country Natural Beef is unique because all ranches are certified sustainable by the Food Alliance for their commitment to humaneanimal treatment and sustainable agricultural practices. This is their first party of this kind, where the ranchers are coming to the city to say thanks to their loyal Oregon and Southwest Washington customers. The family-focused fair will feature cowboy activities including cowboy poetry, a story-telling circle, roping tricks and lessons, a stick horse rodeo for children, a barn dance and more. Many Country Natural Beef ranchers will be at the fair, welcoming fair-goers and mingling with the crowds.Additionally, there will be city-sized cookout with Country Natural Beef partners Burgerville, New Seasons, Whole Foods Market, Bon Appétit, Fulton Provision and Food Alliance, featuring – of course – all natural, vegetarian fed, antibiotic and hormone-free Country Natural Beef. Costs are nominal and family-friendly and proceeds will be donated to Oregon Food Bank.Said Country Natural Beef’s Dan Barnhart, a cooperative member rancher from Corvallis, “This fair is our way of tipping our hats and saying thanks to Portland area residents who have so strongly supported us since 1986. We’re excited to be able to share some of our country culture – as well as our delicious beef – with the community at this fun event, and pleased to be supporting Oregon Food Bank.”Director Park, Portland’s new downtown piazza, is located behind the Fox Tower between SW Park and SW 9th and SW Taylor and SW Yamhill. The “Country Natural Beef & Friends Country Food Fair” is one of the park’s first major public events since it opened in October 2009.On the Menu•The Burgerville Nomad mobile kitchen will serve favorites like the Country Natural Beef Tillamook Cheeseburger®, and will also have a veggie burger option. •Fulton Provision Co. and Burgerville will team up to serve hot dogs off the barbecue grill as well. •New Seasons Market will serve fresh-squeezed lemonade and samples of seasonal grilled veggies.•Whole Foods Market will have Country Natural Beef smoked tri-tip sandwiches with onion-thyme jam and fresh arugula, served with tailgate coleslaw. •Bon Appétit will be offering Country Natural Beef ribs and Oregon strawberry shortcake.Entertainment: Cowboy Poetry, Storytelling and MoreThere will be a variety of cowboy activities for fair-goers to both participate in and watch: •Country Natural Beef founding member Doc Hatfield of Brothers, Oregon, along with others, will tell cowboy stories. •Country Natural Beef ranchers will perform rope tricks.•Wannie MacKenzie of Baker City, Oregon, will give roping lessons. •Rancher Bob Emert of Echo, Oregon, will strum his guitar and sing cowboy songs.•Rich and Char Reid of Firth, Idaho, will lead a "come-join-on-in" barn dance.
